+ Това

It is not an easy task to describe + Това (plus Tova), when someone suggested to me that I visit, I thought it was an event space, but then they said they served coffee and quiches, but also sold quality design items. So my impression of + Това is that it is all of these things, and these things are not mutually exclusive. A café, bakery, boutique, event space or just space to fill how you wish.

You can find + Това located in one of my favorite Sofia neighborhoods, Doctor’s Garden. I can totally envision myself living in one of these authentically restored Bulgarian Revival-style houses in the area, but with the juxtaposition of retro and modern furnishing, of course.

When you walk in you find the café, bar and snack counter immediately to your right. Beneath the glass counter you find both sweet and savory baked goods, which I didn’t try. I had just finished lunch, so I ordered a Latte, which was quite good. The coffee had subtle sweetness; I didn’t detect the usual bitterness one associates with coffee, which for me is a good thing.

I was rather taken with the little shop they had set up. They were selling some amazing home accessories, cups and mugs, jewelry and just generally cool stuff, unique items that would start many a conversation. With the holidays coming, it would be worthwhile to check their Christmas Bazaar on December 16th, 2012

Some of the artists whose work I enjoyed was Tochka & Tochka, with their great cups and funky salt and pepper shakers; Krasen Troanski Gallery who also designed some cool cups…

…and Yana Tankovska Design with a nice collection of jewelry and candle holders that look like muffins or mini bundt cakes.

But what really tickled my fancy was the vast display or shall I say showroom for Funkt Architects. I have praised their work at SupaStar, Take A Cake Bakery and now + Това, but from what I can tell is that Funkt and + Това work very closely together, judging from an article on their website from Forbes Bulgaria

On one hand, I love finding and enjoying this new spaces and places, yet I always get these melancholy feelings that I can’t not spontaneously pop in for a coffee and tap away on my laptop.

Another fact worth pointing out is that they offer cooking/kitchen facilities; maybe for giving a food demo or a cooking class.

+ Това is simultaneous many things. It is part of a growing trend in Sofia to have places and spaces (like Betahaus and Soho) that develop a persona of their own and like the Room of Requirements in Harry Potter, they morph to suit your needs.
